I know, I know, announcement of an announcement, but there’s a few important reasons why this one is worth mentioning. First, it’s a live event you can actually attend. Second, not only will the release date be shown but we’ll get to see a new Blizzard cinematic too. Third, the livestream will be happening along with the broadcast of the finals of the current season of StarCraft’s professional league.
And fourth, I really like StarCraft II. Like, a lot.
So, the event is happening on September 13th at 10am PDT, which is next Sunday at 6pm Brit time. Here’s the rundown of everything that will be featured on the livestream:
- World premiere of the Legacy of the Void cinematic and launch date reveal
- A preview of what’s to come in Legacy of the Void from StarCraft II’s senior developers.
- The thrilling conclusion to the StarCraft II WCS Season 3 Finals live from Poland
By this point in SC2 and Heart of the Swarm’s development cycle there had been a full single-player preview event with various fansites and press outlets. By the looks of things this is replacing that, along with taking the same role as the Warlords of Draenor launch date and intro cinematic event did last year. If you happen to be in LA, Blizzard are holding anofficial Barcraft eventto watch it on a big screen in a local pub.
Bit of speculation now: Draenor’s reveal event happened in mid-August, with a release date of mid-November announced at it. This is happening a month later and I’m willing to assume the gap will be similar. We’ve already heard about how the game is coming out this year, though I’m admittedly surprised they stuck to it what with the big changes still happening on the multiplayer balance front. So, early December is my guess. While we’re at it, I don’t think the Legacy of the Void intro will beat the current Blizzard top three of Heart of the Swarm intro, Heroes of the Storm teaser or Warlords of Draenor intro, but it will probably be very pretty.
