Steam charts: most popular games, 1-7 September, 2018

What are the best-selling games in the Steam charts in this week 36 of 2018?

Every week PCGamesN recount the highest performing titles on Valve’s platform, from the ten Steam top sellers to the Steam games with the most concurrent players. Why? Because knowing what games people are flocking to is useful for discovering new titles and reminding us of the ones we really ought to have tried by now.

The first portion of this weekly roundup focuses on Steam sales – that is to say the games and DLC that are selling like proverbial hot cakes. We pull these entries from the Steam store itself, under the global top sellers page. The second part of our Steam charts rundown looks at concurrent players, which gives us some insight into the most played games of the past week.

This week is all about pre-orders and DLC, but we’ve got a few new releases in there, too. The top sellers list has room for lots of new popular names, but it’s business as usual when it comes to the top games by concurrent players. Join us as we list the top ten games for each category along with a brief analysis of the week’s biggest surprises.

Steam Top Sellers

Here are the Steam top sellers, week ending September 7th:

  • Two Point Hospital
  • Rocket League
  • SCUM
  • Europa Universalis IV: Dharma expansion
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition
  • Europa Universalis IV: Empire Bundle
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider Croft Edition
  • Hearts of Iron IV

Survival game Scum was the star of last week’s Steam Charts, but it has slipped down the top ten list this week from second to third. Two Point Hospital, spiritual sequel to the classic management game Theme Hospital, maintains its rude health as it holds on to top spot once again, but there are some new names in this list. For instance, one of the biggest JRPG series in Japan, Dragon Quest, came to PCs this week, and it looks like it’s not just a popular game in the east.

Expansions and pre-orders selling strongly, too. Europa Universalis IV fans have been very much in luck this week as the game locks down eighth spot: the massive Empire Bundle has seen a hefty 59% discount on loads of extra content for the grand strategy game. Speaking of pre-orders, however, the special Shadow of the Tomb Raider Croft Edition is proving popular ahead of Lara’s next adventure on September 14. The deluxe edition bags you 48 hours of early access to the game, a Steam-exclusive wallpaper, and an additional skills booster pack.

STEAM CHARTS BY CONCURRENT PLAYERS

Here are the most played games on Steam, week ending September 7th:

  • PUBG
  • Dota 2
  • CS:GO
  • Monster Hunter: World
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • GTA 5
  • Warframe
  • Path of Exile
  • Rocket League
  • Football Manager 2018

As per usual, there are few surprises at the summit of the Steam Charts by concurrent players list. The top five is identical to last week, but GTA 5 and Warframe have traded places. Rust and Team Fortress 2 slip out of the top ten completely, replaced by Path of Exile and Rocket League.

To see how these figures compare to last week’s check out the Steam Charts for week 35, 2018. So, there you have it, these are the games people are buying and playing right now – so whether you want to leap onto a new trend or simply find something new to play, this could help.
