Sunless Skies launches into Early Access at the end of August

Sunless Skies Albion

Sunless Skies, the forthcoming sequel to top-down boating game Sunless Sea, sees players exploring the cold void of space, which probably isn’t any less grim than the dingy waters of the original game. It’s set to hit Steam Early Access and land on GOG Games in Development on August 30.

In its Early Access offering, you’ll be able to access one of four regions in the game, called The Reach, as well as a selection of features. More will be added as development progresses, of course.

“The Reach is a verdant, sunless frontier. London pioneers – spearheaded by the avaricious Windward Company – establish far-flung colonies and plunder the riches of the region’s ruins and wild gardens,” developers Failbetter explain. “But many colonists crave independence from the Empire, and the Reach is rife with conflict. Will you be one of the lucky few who strikes it rich? Or one of the masses broken amidst the green wastes?”

You’ll be able to explore the skies of this region, dock at its ports, interact with stories, trade, fight, and, of course, die. It’ll cost £18.99, though it will launch with a small early adopter discount.

The estimated window for the game’s full launch is May 2018. Check out the Sunless Skies development roadmap at that link.
