The Evil Within 2 gameplay trailer shows terrifying hellscapes and screaming murderkids

The Evil Within

Update: Another trailer has released for The Evil Within 2, this time giving us a better look at gameplay. There will be plenty of creepy dead things lunging at your face.

It’s business as usual, then. Expect the same classic survival horror gameplay, but this time with more optional stuff and more open-ended scenarios. There will be more player choice, essentially, but you’re still going to be murdered horribly by screaming hellbabies and long-haired demon kids.

That’s not all that’s happening at Bethesda’s E3 2017 showcase though.

Watch the video above from 19:46 for a look.

Original Story: Confirmingleaks from earlier today– via a Reddit ad, of all places – Bethesda have greenlit The Evil Within 2. The Resident Evil-inspired spooks return and you can see it all above.

If you thought things were bad for Detective Sebastian Castellanos in the first game, this sequel apparently features him at his lowest point ever. Yes, things can be worse than an unkillable, cage-headed man stalking you for eternity.

According to the official blurb, fate hands Sebastiana chance to save his daughter, but to do so he must explore a twisted, nightmarish town where reality is warped.

“Set in Union, a crumbling city built using Lily’s mind as the Core, The Evil Within 2 presents a mix of closed off, claustrophobic environments that are reminiscent of the first game, and new, less linear areas that will give you the opportunity to explore at your own pace,” say Bethesda.

“You’ll be able to wander freely and poke through all the dark corners of the world at your leisure, but this is still a survival horror game, and ammo and resources will be scarce. You’ll need to prepare carefully and move cautiously as you discover the secrets of Union and unravel Mobius’ plans from within STEM.”

You’ll have to use a mix of stealth and aggression to fight off threats, all while managing your inventory in true survival-horror style. If you miss classic Resi this is probably the next best thing.

The Evil Within is out on October 13 – yes, that’s a Friday.
