Topic of the Week: What do you want to see in Star Wars Battlefront

Topic of the Week: Star Wars Battlefront

Last weekend was dominated by Star Wars. Movie teasers, panels, spin-off trailers and, of course, the first look at Star Wars Battlefront. DICE spilled a lot of details about their Star Wars shooter, like the focus on the original trilogy and the lamentable lack of space combat, but there’s still a lot we don’t know. Will it be one of the best PC Star Wars games?

For our Topic of the Week, we want to know what you want to see in Star Wars Battlefront. Snowspeeders taking down AT-ATs? Darth Vader wiping out whole squads of rebels? Ridiculous Force powers? Let us know in the comments.

I’ll get the ball rolling.

I can’t pretend that almost everything that DICE said disappointed me a little bit. No campaign, no space combat, the 40-player cap. Those first two things make it seem like a step back from the second game. Is space even fun, a man from DICE asked, as if it wasn’t a ridiculous question.

However! These are hardly things that will make me write it off. And while space is out, that doesn’t mean spaceships are. We know that flying vehicles will be involved in battles, and I’d very much like to see them in action. So I can’t bugger off into space, that doesn’t mean I can’t get into a dogfights against TIEs or use my harpoons to tangle up AT-ATs on Hoth.

We already know that the likes of Darth Vader will join battles, big, important heroes and villains that can turn the tide of battle. DICE has said that Vader can turn the tide of a battle in the right hands, but I want to see these units terrifying the opposition. “Oh god, Vader’s here, we’re fucked,” I want them to yell.

In games, other than Force Unleashed, the might of the Jedi and Sith is so diminished for the sake of balance and challenge that they don’t really feel like the living weapons that one expects them to be. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen in Battlefront.

What about you lovely lot? What are you hoping to see in Battlefront?
