Shogun 2’s Fall of the Samurai expansion is now a Total War Saga game

Saga's inspiration is now a Saga game

Fall of the Samurai was initially released as an expansion for Total War: Shogun 2, available as both a DLC pack and a standalone release. As a standalone title, it fits right in with developer Creative Assembly’s current Total War Saga series, and as such it’s getting rebranded under that new moniker.

It’s now officially A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai. If you already own the game, you’re getting a special gift in the form of all its DLC – except the blood pack – for free. If you don’t have it yet, it’s currently 75% off on Steam, and you can also pick up the previous Total War Saga, Thrones of Britannia, at a 66% discount.

So why do we have a rebrand? In the announcement, Creative Assembly says that Fall of the Samurai “has been used as a goalpost to inform the development of subsequent Saga titles, and so it only seems right to give the game its own Saga treatment.”

It looks like the next title in the subseries is also well on the way, as trademark listings have outed an upcoming Total War Saga: Troy.

In the meantime, you’ve got a fresh excuse to dive into Fall of the Samurai, and speculate on what the future of the Saga series holds.
