The flamethrower is a nod to Elon Musk, as his Boring Company began selling ‘not a flamethrower’ flamethrowers at the beginning of 2018. Musk tweeted at the time that the weapon’s “safe word is cryptocurrency,” which Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford response was, “I’m going to add this to our next Borderlands game.”
It seems Pitchford followed through with the tweet as the Firesale Long Musket is a legendary gun in Borderlands 3. The red text for this legendary gun reads ‘Say “cryptocurrency”!’ – a reference to Musk’s tweet earlier last year. If you want to get your hands on this one of a kind flamethrower, there are a few places you can head to.

How to get the Borderlands 3 Elon Musk flamethrower
This Tediore flamethrower is highly effective against flesh and as another nod to Elon Musk, the special effect is ‘One free blockchain with every reload’. As it’s a Tediore weapon, the flamethrower does explode on reload, damaging enemies further.
You have a chance to find the Firesale Long Musket in Borderlands 3 in Athenas. Head to the centre of the map, to a location called Windward Plaza, where you’ll come up against one of Hammerlock’s legendary hunts, Chupcabratch. There’s a respawner very close to this boss, so in order to farm it for legendary weapons all you need to do is sprint from spawn to the boss arena, kill the boss, grab its loot, and quit to the main menu – rinse and repeat until you get what you’re after. This miniboss has been known to drop other legendary guns, so there’s a chance you’ll get the Firesale Long Musket, though it is a random loot drop, and never guaranteed. As we mentioned, it’s also possible to get the Infinity Pistol or Conference Call in Borderlands 3.
Another way the Elon Musk flamethrower has been discovered is through the Borderlands 3 cube puzzle challenge and in endgame content, such as Mayhem Mode.
