Here’s our first look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s (rumoured) battle royale mode

It's looking more and more likely a battle royale mode is coming to Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward hasn’t officially confirmed rumours of an upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare battle royale. However, it’s looking more and more certain the FPS game’s got the new mode on the way at some point, based on some images of its map that have popped up online.

YouTube content creator Ryan B. has posted some intriguing discoveries on Twitter: “If you go to Atlas Superstore in a private match and become the CoD caster you can explore the entire map”, he says, alongside images of what appear to be the battle royale map. “It is all low quality because you don’t see it in regular gameplay”, he advises, but says he flew up into the game’s sky to “get the overview”.

As the YouTuber indicates, the images don’t give us too much of a close-up view of the apparent map, but from the bird’s eye shot it looks pretty big. The landmark views suggest a giant, covered sports arena, an airbase with hangar and runway, a gulag, and possibly some kind of hydro dam (from one image posted by the user in the post’s replies).

It’s not confirmed the images are of a battle royale map heading to the game, or whether the mode is actually on the way, but signs so far indicate it’s a very big probably. Modern Warfare’s new cinematic that shows on launching Season 2 teases a battle royale, with shots of an airfield, then a giant map, and explosive chaos all around.

Plus, there’s now a ‘classified’ note right next to the campaign, multiplayer, and co-op options in the game, indicating there’s something coming to slot right into that spot soon. Hmm. Better keep an eye out for a battle royale mode soon, then.
