Dead Island: Epidemic trailer teaches the basics of how to survive in zombie-infested paradise

Dead Island: Epidemic trailer

Dead Island: Epidemic is out on Early Access: here’s our Dead Island Epidemic review.

Deep Silver has thrown up a new trailer for Dead Island Epidemic, the zombie MOBA spin-off. It’s a primer for the game, spilling the beans on the co-op and PvPvPvE mode – which sounds just a little bit bonkers – and the crafting, which works a lot like the original Dead Island’s.

It’s an odd franchise for a MOBA, but developer Stunlock Studios has done a great job translating the universe to the new genre. It’s in Early Access at the moment, and so far it’s been a bit of a laugh, smashing zombies and scavengers with silly weapons.

I’ve yet to get schematics for the fire axe that spews fire or the deadly umbrella, but they are now at the top of my list.

The original Dead Island seemed stuck on the line between poe-faced zombie horror and wackiness, and after so many escort and fetch quests, it really lost its steam. Epidemic, on the other hand, revels in just how ridiculous it is. And by throwing in enemy players and competitiveness into the mix, it might just be able to avoid the repetition that hampered it’s first-person forbear.

If you want to check it out, it’ll be F2P, but at the moment it’s £8.70/$11.38 to get into the Early Access.
