How to delete your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save and start a new game

The design philosophy in Capcom’s RPG is different to a lot of games, and that includes the way you delete your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save.

How do you delete your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save file? If you’ve ever played either of the Dragon’s Dogma games, you know immediately that there are certain aspects of the game that aren’t like normal RPGs. Mechanics like the way fast travel works and having your food spoil after a day can be frustrating, but not having the option to easily delete your save is another level of awkward.

Fortunately, if you’re playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PC, there’s a way to delete your save, but you’re going to have to jump through some hoops first. Whether you’ve screwed up a number of Dragon’s Dogma 2 missions or you couldn’t solve the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx riddles on your own, there are plenty of reasons why you might want to start a new game. Here’s what you have to do to delete your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save.

Unlike most games, Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t feature an option to delete your save on the main menu or even in the settings menu. Your game save is backed up on your computer and on Steam Cloud, forcing you to disable the cloud save, otherwise it automatically restores once Steam realizes the files are missing. This means you can’t have Dragon’s Dogma 2 multiple save files which makes unlocking certain achievements difficult.

Here’s what you need to do to permanently delete your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save:

  • Launch Steam and head to the Library tab.
  • Right click Dragon’s Dogma 2 and click properties.
  • Disable the ‘Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Dragon’s Dogma 2’ option.
  • Open up your primary Steam folder, for most people this should be located at the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
  • Click on the ‘userdata’ folder and inside you may find multiple folders with different numbers on them. Each folder corresponds to your Steam ID, so if you own a lot of games, chances are your folder is the one with the most folders inside it.
  • Once you’re inside your Steam userdata folder, search for the folder number: 2054970.
  • Open the 2054970 folder, then go into the ‘Remote’ folder within that. Inside you should find ‘win64_save’.
  • Delete all the files inside the win64_save folder.

Now that Steam Cloud has been disabled, you shouldn’t have to worry about your old save coming back on its own. Once you boot back into Dragon’s Dogma 2 and create a new save, you can enable Steam Cloud to replace your old save once and for all.

That’s all you need to do to delete your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save. As your save has no way of coming back, you should jump back into Dragon’s Dogma 2 and recreate your character the way you want to. Sure, you could’ve kept playing until you unlocked Dragon’s Dogma 2 New Game Plus or simply changed your Dragon’s Dogma 2 appearance instead, but this method works too.
