How does new game plus work in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Capcom’s fantasy epic now has a sequel, and we’ve been hard at work as the Arisen, discovering all of the mechanics and vocations. One inclusion confirmed in the lead-up to the game’s release is a new game plus, and we’ve got all of the information you need on how it works, what you’ll be able to carry over, and even some unlockables that come with it.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has tested us to our limits but as Nat’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 review states, it’s a “faithful reimagining” of the first that we’re slowly but surely falling in love with. We’ve been to every corner of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 map, we’ve discovered where all the Dragon’s Dogma 2 maisters are, and we’ve figured out everything that will change when you enter new game plus.
Please be warned that this guide contains endgame spoilers and new game plus information, though we haven’t touched on any story aspects here.
Every Dragon’s Dogma 2 New Game Plus change
When you start the game again on New Game Plus, there are some changes you should be aware of before you venture off on your journey. After spending a lifetime across Vermund, Battahl, and the Volcanic Island, you may want to review your characters and your Pawns first.
Here’s a list of every Dragon’s Dogma 2 New Game Plus change:
- You and your Pawn can change your appearance for free when you start New Game Plus.
- You get to bring your items, weapons, vocation process, your experience points, skills, as well as your Gold and RC.
- Any Portcrystals you dropped throughout the map will be placed back into your inventory.
- Any quest-related items will be removed from your inventory, everything except the Empowered Godsbane Blade.
- If you’ve already unlocked advanced vocations, you can switch to one of them immediately at the Borderwatch Outpost Inn after resting there once.
- Every quest resets, giving you another chance to complete the entire game second again.
- The full version of the map becomes available, though this doesn’t include the inside of caves.
- The Dragonforged NPC becomes available, selling boosts to your characters’ stats and vocation skills.
There are some surprises in there that you might not have expected, like enemies not being powered up in New Game Plus. If you had an easy time fighting them before, it’s only going to be easier now that you have access to the best Dragon’s Dogma 2 armor and weapons.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 new game plus explained
After beating the game, you’re given the option to continue from your last save, continue from the last inn rest, or start new game plus. The game will endeavor to put you off heading in to this without being completely sure of it, as no fewer than four popups appear to ask if you want to proceed.
The first warning explains that you can carry your game data over to a new playthrough, retaining your current experience, level, skills, and most of your inventory, but losing all quest progress. Your items will be sent to storage to collect from a chest as soon as you start your new playthrough.
The second warning suggests, “Perhaps you would like to rethink your decision,” and states that you can’t change your mind once you’ve gone ahead. The third warning gets more pressing and says, “Are you quite sure?” suggesting that you might want to “confer with others” before hitting the button.
The fourth warning asks, “Is this your final decision?” Pressing yes on this window will take you to the point of no return, and launch the new playthrough. You’ll start from the beginning of the game and collect the majority of your inventory from a nearby chest.
It’s important to note that you’ll want to ensure you’ve achieved the Dragon’s Dogma 2 true ending before heading into a new playthrough if you want to get the full experience. What may feel like the end of the game actually has untapped potential beyond it, but check out our guide linked above if you want to know how to unlock it.
How to retrieve your equipment in new game plus
When you begin a new game plus run, your character will still be stuck in the work camp, and be forced to carry That One Rock before it kicks off with the Medusa-like monster. It plays out the same as the first time, with the Arisen being clad in shoddy attire and sans-weapon.
To retrieve your equipment, simply access your storage from any inn, transfer it back to your inventory, and you’re good to go.
