Elite: Dangerous’ new space station is named in memory of Terry Pratchett

Elite: Dangerous Terry Pratchett tribute

Last week was made rather gloomy by the passing of Discworld author and PC game-lover, Sir Terry Pratchett. I got sad and lost myself in memories of adventure game spin-off, Discworld Noir, but the lovely folk at Frontier Developments got a bit more creative in their salute to him.

Terry Pratchett now has a space station named after him.

Pratchett’s Disc is a starport added to Elite: Dangerous 1.2.05, along with a number of fixes. You can go looking for it right now. Keep an eye out for turtles if you do.

“At Frontier we have a great many Pratchett fans on staff and we were all saddened to learn of his passing,” executive producer Michael Brookes told Eurogamer. “The sentiment was reflected by our community so we felt it would be right to remember him in Elite: Dangerous.

“For me personally, Terry Pratchett was one of very few authors whose books I could buy without needing to read a review or even ask what the story was about. His talent for social commentary, humour, unforgettable characters and vivid worlds not only provided joy as a reader, but inspiration as a writer.”

I haven’t played much of Elite: Dangerous in a while, but I might have jump in my ship and head to Pratchett’s Disc later.
