Team Liquid recruits Heroes of the Storm team founded by StarCraft’s legendary Durán brothers

In their day, the brothers Pedro “LucifroN” Moreno Durán and Juan “VortiX” Moreno Durán were two of the most dominant StarCraft players in Europe. There was a time when it seemed like they were getting strong placements in just about every major tournament. Now, after fading out of the StarCraft scene, the brothers have just signed with Team Liquid.

Only this time, they’re playing Heroes of the Storm.

Team Liquid announced the move on their website. It’s a major commitment from Liquid to Heroes of the Storm, but also a chance to finally get two eSports greats onto the team.

“I hope that everyone can understand the special attention that I pay them as I believe that this is significant move for Team Liquid. …Even though our paths rarely crossed, throughout the years I’ve felt like these two could have easily become Liquid players had things lined up a little differently,” writes Liquid founder Victor “Nazgul” Goossens. “I had always hoped to make this thought a reality, and when we decided to expand our reach with a Heroes of the Storm team, the opportunity to finally work with these players was one that I wholeheartedly embraced. I look forward to what this team can accomplish with an abundance of talent and brotherhood to back it up.”

This is the second time we’ve seen major StarCraft 2 stars return to eSports with Heroes. Evil Geniuses brought Greg “IdrA” Fields back into the fold with their Heroes team just before BlizzCon, and the game has been getting more and more attention among other players.

It’s also a sign of Liquid’s continuing diversification as the venerable eSports team moves to secure its future in eSports, no matter what shape they take.
