You can vote for which League of Legends champion gets reworked next

Five champions are on the ballot to win a complete visual and gameplay overhaul

Best LoL champions - Volibear

League of Legends’ developer is giving players the chance to decide which character they want to see updated. In an announcement earlier today, Riot outlined five “high-priority” champions, and says it’s letting players vote on which one is most in need of a significant gameplay overhaul.

Dr Mundo, Fiddlesticks, Nocturne, Shyvana, and Volibear are all in line for a visual & gameplay update (VGU) – a system in which Riot “redesigns a champion from the ground up, including their gameplay, visuals, story, animations, voice acting…the works.” It’s a system that’s already been in place for quite some time, but lead champion producer Ryan ‘Reav3’ Mireles has previously said that a recent spate of VGUs means there aren’t many pressing updates left to make.

That said, all of the champions listed in this announcement are clearly in need of a little TLC. Reav3 says that many of them need help delivering on their power fantasies – Nocturne needs to be a more ghostly, nightmarish apparition, while Shyvana’s fire-breathing dragon persona needs to be further differentiated from her human form.

Dr. Mundo would appear to be the exception to that rule, as Reav3 says that his kit “has held up pretty well over the years.” He’d need some new animations, and his W and E would want upgrading, but for the most part he feels like the least pressing candidate, in my opinion.

If it were up to me, I’d go for Volibear. He’s a fun idea, but has much less of an impact than some of his Freljordian brothers and sisters. I’m a fan of Shyvana in her current form, and I’ve never really played Fiddle or Nocturne, so the Thunder’s Roar is where I’m placing my bet.

You can vote on the champion you’d like to see updated on the announcement page linked at the top of this article – polls close at 23:59 PT on May 15. While Riot has previously asked for player input on skins, this is the first time it’s encouraging something that has the potential to have this much of an impact on gameplay.

Whoever wins, Riot says we won’t see their new look until 2020. Before then, there are Mordekaiser and Pantheon reworks to come, as well as the arrival of new champion Yuumi, a jungle-themed AD assassin, and another mysterious character scheduled for release towards the end of this year.
