Update, September 11: Bluehole have given us a closer look at the foggy weather coming in the next PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds patch.
The next PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds patch is bringing foggy weather to the game, and Bluehole have released screenshots giving a better look at how the change will impact the game.

Things seem to get a little Silent Hill in the screenshots, which you can see below. There’s not a huge amount to them – they’re misty-looking variations on the game’s map – but they’re pretty atmospheric, and the new effects could push games towards close-quarters skirmishes rather than long-range sniping.

Update, September 8:Bluehole have revealed the weapon arriving in the next PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds patch.
In social media posts from this morning, Bluehole have confirmed that the gun arriving in PUBG in the upcoming patch will be the Ruger mini-14 5.56. The weapon won’t be exclusive to crates, but will be available to pick up across the map.
In a tweet about the new semi-automatic weapon, Bluehole say “after next week’s update, Mini-14 will be available all over the island of Erangel.”

Original story, September 7:The next PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds patch is due next week. We know this as, in posts on Facebook and Twitter, it was revealed that test servers for the patch will be up from “early next week.”
On Twitter, the PUBG team say: “We’ve been working on the new build and will deploy the update next week. Test servers will be up for at least 2 days early next week.” The patch brings in some new features, but they aren’t massive changes to the game. The biggest is definitely a new weapon, but there’s also “foggy weather condition, FPP leaderboards and multiple bug fixes.”
On Facebook, there are a few extra details. The post there also clarifies that more detailed patch notes will be released before the test build goes live.
To the annoyance of many of PUBG’s more vocal Twitter followers, these changes seem to be coming in ahead of the game’s upcoming, and highly-anticipated, vaulting mechanics. We’re also a significant way off the arrival of the new map, although PlayerUnknown himself has recently confirmed that the new desert environment will be the same size as the game’s current map.
