There are now 263 Steam games with ‘hentai’ in the title

Steam hentai won't stop

As of January 7, a game titled Hentai Nazi is available on Steam. If the title doesn’t clue into what this game is, the low-quality screenshots, extensive meme references, and two dollar price tag probably will. This is what you might uncharitably call ‘Steam Trash’ – a low-quality game built on shock value and impulse-buy pricing, and it joins a list of ‘hentai’ titles on Steam that’s already hundreds long.

A quick search of SteamDB will show that there are now 263 Steam games with ‘hentai’ in the title, most of them released within the past year or two, following Valve’s promise to allow anything that’s not “illegal, or straight up trolling” on the platform. Some of the games in that list have been removed from Steam – I’m not sure the world will miss Hentai Loli vs Pedobear, for example – but the list of available games is still hundreds long.

That’s a fraction of the total number of games on the platform – there were 8,290 Steam games released in 2019 alone – but it’s a notable slice of Steam’s increasingly prolific low-effort sexual content releases. Publishers like Hentai Works, AmagSwag, and Konnichiwa Games have put out dozens of tiny titles, ranging from block sliding puzzles to small scale ‘parodies’ of games from PUBG to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Steam’s default filters will prevent games with explicit sexual content from showing up in your feed, but the proliferation of cheap ‘hentai’ titles is still bizarre. There are substantially more fully-featured porn games out there if you want to pay – many of them on Steam – and you don’t need to spend any money at all if you just want to see hentai images or low-quality animations.

In short, I’m saying that you’re better than bad porn. The best sex games on PC will treat you so much better, even if they don’t have quite the same meme content.
