Blizzard accidentally made WoW characters disappear

Wow South Park

It’s been quite a start to the new year for World of Warcraft, both good and bad. Pre-orders for Battle for Azeroth have now gone live – including a Deluxe Edition -Blizzard have apologised for the “rocky start” to WoW patch 7.3.5, and now World of Warcraft characters are disappearing.

Throughout yesterday, World of Warcraft players were reporting their characters had completely vanished, with many of them getting black screens when trying to access realm selection. Those who did finally populate in the game received a “character not found” message or became trapped online.

Being the calm and reasonable people WoW fans are, many took to the official forums to air their frustrations and seek help. So many, in fact, that the response had to be continued in a second thread. Though Blizzard kept players updated while they fixed the issue, many were unable to access the game for up to five hours, and issues continued with Mac users for considerably longer.

Though Blizzard have now resolved the issues, no explanation has been given for why the problems arose in the first place.

We have contacted Blizzard for comment.
