Forza Horizon 4 lets you design your own races, for real this time

One of the very few disappointing things about Forza Horizon 3 is that it doesn’t let you truly design races. You can create Bucket List challenges, including mapping out routes for them, but when it came to race design, you’re limited to tinkering with race parameters in the game’s Blueprints. Forza Horizon 4 will be changing this, letting you create checkpoints along courses for races you design and map out from scratch.

Fans who were disappointed with Forza Horizon 3’s Blueprints can look forward to full race creation when Forza Horizon 4 launches October 4th. The new Route Creator “lets you design and share your own custom race routes anywhere in the open world,” according to the official Forza site.

We’re looking forward to this one. Forza Horizon 3 is on our list of the best racing games on PC.

That’s good news on its own, and it’ll be interesting to see how much freedom you get when it comes to plunking down checkpoints. Will they all need to be on roads or trails, or can we have a checkpoint strategically placed in a pasture full of innocent sheep?

Interestingly, it seems the race creator will also provide players with a means to control Forza Horizon 4’s seasons and dynamic weather. In normal play, Horizon 4’s seasons will change weekly, with the same schedule for everyone playing in its always-online shared version of Great Britain. However, when you create a race Blueprint, you’ll be able to set parameters that include what season your race takes place in. Turn 10 community manager Brian Eckberg explains in this E3 livestream, below:

So, say it’s the dead of winter and you’re tired of trying to drive your McLaren Senna around in the snow. You can whip up a quick Blueprint race and set it for summer only, and you’ll be able drop in and speed around on clear, sunny streets.

Now we just have to find out whether we can drive that gigantic hovercraft seen in the trailer.
