League of Legends season 10 to add Clash and a new-look Volibear

Riot shares some exciting news about goodies headed to League of Legends this year

League of Legends season 10 is fast approaching and developer Riot has some exciting news to share about what 2020 will bring for its flagship MOBA game. The studio has posted a video on Twitter introducing some of the goodies and changes headed to League of Legends in the coming months – and there’s more to follow in the run up to the new season’s launch on January 10.

In the video – which you can check out below – Riot announces: “New year. New Rift. And that’s just the start,” revealing it’ll be dropping various nuggets of information about its plans for the game’s events, modes, new skin lines, Champion updates, and more to come throughout the week. To start, though, it offers some exciting glimpses at what these might be – such as a brand new look for Juggernaut Champion Volibear.

Clad in more pared-back armour, adorned with braids, and sporting a striking, rugged new appearance, Volibear looks almost like an all-new Champion – check it out at around the 30 seconds mark below. There’s no in-game shot or splash art just yet, but the artwork shown suggests that there might be some exciting shake-ups to the League of Legends Champions roster this year.

Champion designer at Riot Nathan Lutz has also since posted on Reddit that “more art will be shown during the official road map video later this month” – and it’ll reveal one of his favourite pieces by Riot concept artist, Justin Albers, so far.

Beyond this, Riot says it’s “excited to announce the long-overdue launch of Clash” – the game’s upcoming tournament mode for teams, which sees five players organise and chase down trophies by working as one. The mode has been in the works for a few years, and it looks like 2020 is the year it finally lands.

But that’s not all – there will also be news about Legends of Runeterra, the upcoming online collectible card game set in the LoL universe, as well as Riot’s autobattler Teamfight Tactics, and a look at a new tabletop game by the studio.

It looks like there’s plenty of exciting news to keep an eye out for in the next week, then. In the meantime, check out all the latest changes to the game with League of Legends patch 10.1 – and the changes heading to the game next as part of League of Legends patch 10.2.
