Vampyr sells almost half a million in a month

Vampyr

Vampyr, the gothic action-RPG from Life is Strange developer Dontnod, has sold 450,000 copies since its release on June 4. That figure is across all formats - so Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Steam - but it's still pretty good going for a mid-sized game from a studio whose biggest hit until now was a quirky episodic adventure.

Dontnod CEO Oskar Guilbert says (through the quirks of Google Translate) "we are very proud, because since its launch, our last original creation meets a great craze among players. Thanks to our new role as co-producer, we will greatly benefit from this commercial success."

The strong sales are possibly a little surprising, given that Vampyr had a few problems, ultimately managing 72 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic, with some scores as low as five out of ten (here's our Vampyr review - we gave it a seven).

Last November Cédric Lagarrigue, president of publisher Focus Home, said Vampyr needs to sell a million copies to be "considered a success", but that it will be profitable at half that figure. So it's almost broken even after its first month, and - barring Monster Hunter: World and Battle for Azeroth - the PC game release calendar is looking pretty dry until September.

You can read Guilbert's comments via ActusNews (best if you speak French). If you'd like to give it a crack and help Dontnod along to their one million target, Vampyr is on Steam here, albeit at the rather thirsty price of £44.99 ($49.99). Barring some token cosmetics that were available at launch, Focus has said no DLC is (currently) planned.

i don't like this game due to it's lack of a proper save, if you lost a hint in this game when you want to gather all the hints, you have to delete your entire save and start over from the beginning...
