Dragon’s Dogma 2 An Unsettling Encounter quest guide

Learn where to go in the Dragon's Dogma 2 An Unsettling Encounter quest as you sneak into Vernworth castle at night for more intel.

How do you complete the Dragon’s Dogma 2 An Unsettling Encounter quest? You may only have just escaped from the castle with some intel against the queen regent, but now it looks like you’re going back to find some dirt on the Minister. Captain Brant suspects a deal with the neighboring country of Battahl is being made without the best interests of Vernworth’s people in mind.

This Dragon’s Dogma 2 quest appears on Captain Brant’s list of objectives after you finish the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Disa’s Plot quest. It also has a similar method of completing it, as you’ll need to return to the castle under the cover of darkness, which you can find in the Dragon’s Dogma 2 map. However, it’s here that you meet an unlikely ally for the first time, who is one of the main Dragon’s Dogma 2 characters. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to finish this quest without getting caught by anyone else.

This guide contains spoilers for An Unsettling Encounter, including relevant story context.

How to complete Dragon’s Dogma 2 An Unsettling Encounter

Entering the castle should be the same as before, as Sonia awaits you at the entrance and will escort you back to the guardhouse. Venture up the same stairs as you did during Disa’s Plot, only head to the right instead of going left once at the top. As you turn the corner, a cutscene will begin with Allard talking to a guard about Sven’s intention to meet with him. He’ll also reference a woman named Wilhelmina, a name you should keep a note of.

Wait until Allard leaves and is partway down the corridor before entering the Minister’s chambers. At first glance, nothing is out of the ordinary, but a closer examination of the walls reveals a secret stone door. Inside the newly revealed room is a table with a letter from Battahl. This is the proof you need to bring to Captain Brant.

The Arisen has opened a secret door in the Minister's office in Dragon's Dogma 2 An Unsettling Encounter quest.

Exit the secret room, and you’ll hear Sven and Allard outside arguing about the Sovran. This is your cue to escape through the open window and carefully make your way down to ground level. However, this time, you’re caught by an elegantly dressed woman, who turns out to be the aforementioned Wilhelmina. During a cutscene, she’ll cover for you as a guard inquires about her “companion”. She gives you the Myrmecoleon Card needed to enter the Rose Chateau before sending you on your way. Make your way back to Captain Brant, and he’ll ask you to check on Melve when you’re next there. You’ll also receive a Ring of Accrual and 5,500 gold.

With the conspiracy discovered when completing the Dragon’s Dogma 2 An Unsettled Encounter quest, it’s now time to deal with the rest of Captain Brant’s requests. Some require you to stay in town, such as Dragon’s Dogma 2 The Caged Magistrate, while others, like Dragon’s Dogma 2 Monster Culling, task you with rescuing townsfolk from monsters.
