May 14, 2019 It would appear that Grand Theft Auto V sales can simply not be stopped.
Sure, it’s had a few years to get there, but Grand Theft Auto V has now reached another enormous sales milestone. During its recent earnings call, publisher Take-Two Interactive told investors that the series has now sold more than 110 million copies.
That’s a hugely impressive figure in its own right, but it’s also indicative of how much GTA V’s audiences continue to grow. The game, which first released on console in 2013, reached the 100 million sales milestone in November 2018, meaning it’s gained another 10 million sales in just six months.
For a six-year-old game, that’s an enormous surge in sales. While the game’s ongoing popularity has been more than proven by this point, a recent surge in GTA V roleplay may have helped contribute to the uptick. Earlier this year, several major streamers began playing, causing GTA V to rocket to the top of Twitch, and certain roleplay servers to stop accepting new applications.
Further testament to the game’s ongoing success is its ability to show up in the charts several years on. In March 2018, nearly five years on, GTA V topped the UK charts for the 15th time since release.

Elsewhere, Take-Two revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 had sold more than 24 million copies. Given that Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC recently showed up on a developer’s LinkedIn profile, those sales could add more fuel to the fire of those of us hoping the game is finally taking a step beyond its console release.
