How do you transfer Palworld Game Pass save data to the Steam version? If you’re reading this, it’s because you wish to migrate your saved world over from the Game Pass PC client to the Steam version, whether it’s to ensure you won’t lose your progress or join other Steam users. The good news is that there is a way to do it, and it ensures that all the Pals you’ve caught and your crafted gear won’t be lost.

You’ll need to download some external software to transfer Palworld Xbox data. Thankfully, it’s relatively simple to use, and once the process is complete, you can continue in the survival game from where you left off. So, if you’ve already beaten a few Palworld bosses, explored much of the Palworld map, and tinkered with the Palworld settings until they’re just right, here is how you can keep your progress.

How to migrate Palworld save data to Steam

Here are the steps you need to take to complete a full Palworld save game migration:

  • Go to the XGP Save Extractor Github releases page.
  • Download the latest version of “xgp-save-extractor.exe”.
  • Move the app to a folder where it’s the only one there. This is important for finding your save data once extracted.
  • Open the app and, if prompted, click More Info, then Run Anyway.
  • Your save files will then automatically appear in the same folder as the app as a zip file. Extract it to the same folder.
  • Open the Steam version of Palworld and create a new save.
  • Press WIN+R to open the Run command.
  • Type %LocalAppData% and click OK. This opens your Local App Data in your primary drive’s User folder.
  • Open the Pal folder, Saved, and then SaveGames.
  • The folder with the most recent Date Modified date is your new save data. Open this folder and the subfolder within.
  • Transfer all the Game Pass save files from the Zip file/extracted folder into the Steam save data’s subfolder. Choose to replace files if asked.
  • Close the folder and open the Steam version. You should now be able to continue with your Game Pass save.

While migrating saves to the Steam version is doable, it’s currently impossible to swap a Steam save over if you want to play using the Game Pass version. As Palworld crossplay is not fully supported, this method below only works on a PC, so if you’re trying to move your saved data between your Xbox console and PC, you won’t have much luck.

With that, you should now have transferred your Palworld save data from Game Pass to Steam. Now that you’ve migrated your progress to Steam, it should be far simpler to install the best Palworld mods. We also have plenty of other tips in our Palworld guide explaining some more complex mechanics.
