Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a solider holds a submachine gun in a dark room

The best Warzone 2 SMG is part of a versatile group of weapons, able to fill in as a solid secondary when paired with one of the best Warzone 2 sniper rifles, or as a primary if you’re the type of player who enjoys getting up close and personal.

The best Warzone 2 SMG in season 1 is the Lachmann Sub, also known as the MP5. This gun has the best mobility out of all the best Warzone 2 guns, and it packs a serious punch up close if you kit it out with the right attachments, so much so that it also features in our guide to the overall best Warzone 2 loadout drops. Here’s our full list of the best Warzone 2 SMGs and the attachments you’ll want to kit them out with before dropping into the battle royale game.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: an MP5 Lachmann Sub SMG sits on display

Lachmann Sub (MP5)

A true all-rounder, the Lachmann Sub can be outfitted for close combat, or stabilised for mid-range engagements. Depending on the direction you go with the attachments, the MP5 can either function as a primary or a secondary weapon, and we have the best Warzone 2 MP5 Lachmann Sub loadout here if you’re looking for ideas on how to kit out your SMG.

If you don’t have all the attachments we list in our best loadout yet, generally you’ll want to equip things that increase the damage, range, and accuracy. This gun is suited to close-quarters combat, but the Warzone 2 map is so vast, there’ll be occasions where you’ll need to shoot at a longer range than is ideal, so kitting your Lachmann Sub out in preparation for that will save you from wildly spraying around your target instead of actually hitting them.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a Fennec 45 SMG stands on display

Fennec 45

The Fennec offers the highest rate of fire in the SMG class, to the point that you’ll be emptying the clip before you know it. Devastating in close-range encounters, we have the best Warzone 2 Fennec 45 loadout here so you can get the most out of this extremely deadly SMG.

The biggest risk you run with the Fennec is emptying the magazine before you’ve killed your enemy, especially if you’re fighting more than one foe at once, so the Fennec Mag 45 is a must. Much like the Lachmann Sub, improving recoil control and accuracy is important because the Fennec has a hell of a kick, so look for an underbarrel and/or rear grip that can assist on that front.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: an FSS Hurricane SMG sits on display

FSS Hurricane

Finding itself somewhere between an SMG and one of the best Warzone 2 assault rifles, the FSS Hurricane pushes the damage range of the SMG class further than most of the others in this guide, making it perfect to pair alongside a weapon with extreme range. For the most efficient attachment setup, make sure to check out the best Warzone 2 FSS Hurricane loadout which focuses on improving the range even further.

Thanks to its already impressive range though, you may fare better by improving the close-quarters aspect of the gun and use it when you’re clearing buildings. The XTEN or Phantom rear grips are excellent for this, as are both Demo Quicksilver stocks. You can always whack a laser on it too if you want extra hip fire accuracy.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a Vaznev 9-K SMG sits on display

Vaznev-9K

The Vaznev-9K is the hardest-hitting SMG, but with that comes wild recoil and a distinct lack of range. You’ll be able to take down enemies quickly with this SMG, provided you can get your shots on target. Utilising our best Warzone 2 Vaznev-9K loadout ensures you can take advantage of the SMG’s high damage output.

Much like the FSS Hurricane, you’re better off using the Vaznev-9K like an assault rifle, and as a result, you’ll want it to be as accurate as possible. Most of the underbarrels slow down the ADS speed which isn’t ideal, but the Demo-X2 rear grip improves recoil control, while the SA Response III barrel has so many buffs, the ADS speed nerf is worth the trade-off.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a BAS-P SMG sits on display

BAS-P

The BAS-P is the first post-launch addition to the SMG lineup, and it’s a solid showing from the compact weapon. Our guide to the best Warzone 2 BAS-P loadout has the exact details on every attachment you’ll want to run, along with how to unlock the gun, but as it’ll take a while to unlock everything, you’re generally aiming to improve the recoil control.

The Operator Foregrip assists with hip fire accuracy, useful when clearing rooms and buildings, as does a laser attachment. Whacking a slightly longer muzzle on it is also recommended, such as the 6.5″ Bruen Drake.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: an MX9 SMG sits on display

MX9

The MX9 is very similar to the AUG from previous games, both in looks and in the way it handles. Because of its controllable recoil, the MX9 can be used as a mid-range option, with barely any kickback once you start firing. You’ll have no trouble engaging your enemies before they get close, especially with a clear optic like the Slimline Pro.

The best Warzone 2 MX9 loadout has the best attachments for this jack-of-all-trades SMG, but if you haven’t unlocked all of those yet, we’d recommend focusing on a bit of range so you can pair this with a sniper rifle – the Singuard MKV muzzle and Stip-40 rear grip will have you picking enemies off from afar.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a minibak SMG sits on display

Minibak

A huge default magazine size sets the Minibak apart from its competitors, as you’ll be able to sustain fire for much longer, and not having to waste an attachment on improving capacity means that the best Warzone 2 Minibak loadout should focus on lowering its recoil.

Recoil is this SMG’s biggest drawback, so the trusty Demo-X2 rear grip should be the go-to. The Miniback Grip Mag is a unique attachment for this gun that helps with recoil stabilisation too, while the XTEN Razor Comp sacrifices some ADS speed for improved horizontal and vertical recoil.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a PDSW 528 SMG sits on display

PDSW 528

The PDSW 528, or the P90 as you may know it, is a lightweight and highly accurate SMG. Its utility makes it the perfect accompaniment to a sniper rifle, as this SMG can handle things at close to mid range once your long range option goes out the window. We have the best Warzone 2 PDSW 528 loadout here for the attachments you should be running to increase capabilities at long range.

The PDSW 528 may be getting towards the bottom of our best SMGs list, but it’s still not a bad gun, especially up close. So if you don’t want to try and kit it out for ranged engagements and instead want to increase your chances even further of decimating opponents in close-quarters combat, whack on attachments like the CQB stock, TV Taccomb, and 9.5″ Duke-30 barrel.

Best Warzone 2 SMGs: a VEL 46 SMG sits on display

VEL 46

The VEL 46, or the MP7, is a reliable SMG for firefights pushing the mid range, though it doesn’t do enough to make it to the top echelon of the category. Its high mobility, coupled with one of the best rates of fire in the SMG class makes it ideal to equip as a secondary weapon.

The general gist of upgrading this SMG’s stats by using the best Warzone 2 VEL 46 loadout is to account for its fast fire rate and mediocre magazine size – the 50 or 60 round mags will do the job. Whack a barrel on that assists with range and the ZLR Combat rear grip to deal with enemies that are just outside of the ideal range.

There you have the best Warzone 2 SMGs, a versatile group of weapons which undoubtedly includes a gun for the job in this FPS game. It’s always good to have a plan B when entering the new Warzone 2 map, with these weapons being the ideal partner for a primary with extreme range.
