Sports Interactive nerfed real world players for Football Manager 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo is a freak, statistically speaking. “Ronaldo’s scored 14 goals in 8 games this season," Sports Interactive studio director Miles Jacobson explains. “If that happened inside FM we would have people crying bug and calling the game every name under the sun.

“So, sometimes we have to balance differently from the real world."

Football Manager's Sports Interactive have built the "biggest scouting network in football"

For years, Football Manager has influenced the signings of Premier League teams - and earlier this year, Sports Interactive’s database of player data was officially incorporated into Prozone Recruiter - a piece of software clubs rely on for stats.

So how did the world’s most slavish football simulation come to steer the course of the game? According to studio head Miles Jacobson, Sports Interactive’s 1,300 international scouts have built them the “biggest scouting network in football".

“Our data is well known for being accurate," he told PCGamesN. “Sure, we make a few mistakes but not as many as Alex Ferguson with his signing policy."

Football Manager movie An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary screenings announced

Football Manager may not be something you’d immediately expect to spawn a feature-length documentary but An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary is a thing and if you live in the UK then it may be coming to a Vue cinema near you.

The documentary charts the history of the famous football simulator and how it’s found fans around the world and influenced the sport itself.

On 7 October, for one night only, the film will be on show in 26 Vue cinemas around the UK.

Premier League clubs now using Football Manager database to determine new signings

It’s finally started: life is mimicking games. Sports Interactive have become so good at simulating the player-buying behaviour of UK football clubs that those same clubs have begun looking to them for help finding new signings.

Premier League teams will now incorporate Football Manager’s biographical, contractual and positional player database into their recruitment process.

Football Manager 2015 release set for November; buy now for beta access

Don’t tell our Fraser about this, yeah? He’s convinced the decline of pre-orders is good for everyone, and that’s great in principle. But Sega will let us play Football Manager 2015 two weeks early if we buy it now. And really, how much is football going to change in the next three months? Unless they introduce a new rule that makes it okay to go over the lines so long as you kick the ball back in straight away. But it’ll probably be fine.
