Minecraft Live 2024 stream date and latest news

Minecraft Live is changing forever, but it's still happening, in fact more frequently, so here's what we know about Minecraft Live 2024.

What was in Minecraft Live 2024? Minecraft Live is a twice-annual livestream event hosted by members of the Mojang team to inform the community about the latest goings on, development updates, and more. The event is always a huge date among the Minecraft community, so we’re always looking forward to the next one.

Each year before now, usually around the Summer, a brand-new, epic update has come to everyone’s favorite sandbox game, and undeniably one of the best PC games of all time, Minecraft. In recent years, that update has been announced during Minecraft Live. Now, things are ramping up with two of these events a year, so here’s what we know about how that impacts the Minecraft calendar what was announced in the latest livestream.

When is Minecraft Live 2024?

Minecraft Live 2024 took place on September 28, 2024, at 10am PDT, 1pm EDT, 6pm BST. This comes after an announcement that there will now be two Minecraft Live events each year, and you can catch up on the event online.

In a blog post on September 9, 2024, titled “The future of Minecraft’s development“, Mojang dropped a bomb on the community by announcing changes to the current update structure and calendar, as well as a move to two Minecraft Live events a year. This is all good news, as it just means more content at more regular intervals.

It does, however, spell the end of large annual updates, which might be good or bad, depending on how you feel about it. Personally, we loved looking forward to the huge content drop each year, and speculated that the next would be a long-awaited End update. However, we can’t say that more content throughout the year is a bad thing.

This has already been tested since last year’s event with an update in December 2023 which turned decorated pots into functional storage, followed by the Armored Paws update that brought armadillos and wolf armor to the game. Now, a year in Minecraft is going to look more like that, with these smaller content updates announced during the two more concise Minecraft Live events.

How to watch Minecraft Live

Mojang streamed Minecraft Live live on Twitch and YouTube, but you can watch the show again on both platforms, as well as highlights from the show on YouTube and Twitter.

The show was shorter than ever, probably due to their now being two a year, and only referred to the mainline Minecraft game and hte Minecraft Movie, as well as the new Minecraft Experience, where usually Dungeons and Legends and other projects are also discussed.

The main draw of this year’s show was the The Pale Garden and The Creaking, a new biome and mob coming to the vanilla game in a future update, just a few months after the stream itself.

Minecraft Live mob vote

The Minecraft mob vote is not happening in future Minecraft Live shows, with the 2023 vote – won by the Minecraft Armadillo – being the last.

The Minecraft mob vote has been a bone of contention for the last few years. In 2020, the Minecraft glow squid won the vote, but many thought this decision was unfair since Dream – who had a huge following at the time – asked his fans to vote for the squid. Many thought this swayed the voting in his favor and was thus rigged.

Since then, many have complained about the Minecraft Live mob vote, despite it being arguably the most popular part of the show. Another reason many players have fought against the vote, including signing a mob vote petition in 2023, is because they feel one new mob a year isn’t enough, and there is no reason all three new mobs couldn’t be added – or more.

Whatever the reason, whether it’s one of these or something we aren’t privy to, the Minecraft Live mob vote is no more.

Minecraft Bundles of Bravery

The next Minecraft update, or smaller ‘drop’, is Bundles of Bravery, finally bringing Bundles to the vanilla game, while adding Hardcore mode to Bedrock edition.

The Pale Garden

The Pale Garden is a new spooky biome, bringing with it The Creaking, the new mob you can see above. New blocks also come with this huge update, but we’re most exciting about the dynamic and all-new features of the biome and mob – something we’ve never seen in Minecraft before. Check out our guide to the next Minecraft updates in our dedicated guide.

So that’s everything from Minecraft Live 2024. When more new features are announced for the building game, we’ll add them here, but we can’t wait to get to know The Creaking and check out The Pale Forest when they arrive in Minecraft snapshots, so that’s what we’re looking forward to most right now.
