Blizzard incentivises revisiting old dungeons with Timewalking

World of Warcraft patch 6.2 is now live in the Public Test Realm. Blizzard revealed the 6.2 PTR patch notes yesterday, but kept one new feature under their hats until now: Timewalking. 6.2 introduces seven weekend events, and two of those events will be Timewalking weekends, where you’ll be able to venture into old-school dungeons with a new difficulty.

WoW Tokens have already shed almost a quarter of their value

It’s only taken a single day for Blizzard’s WoW Tokens, which can be redeemed for World of Warcraft game time, to dip in value. WoW Tokens can be purchased for $20 or 30,000 in-game gold. The latter of the two prices can change with the in-game market, however, and it has. You can now buy WoW tokens for almost 25 percent off their original price.

WoW Tokens go live tomorrow in the Americas and Australia / New Zealand

The WoW token, which functions a lot like EVE’s PLEX, goes live tomorrow in the Americas and Australia / New Zealand. The token will sell for $20 USD / $25 AUD, and it’s starting price in-game will be 30,000 gold, though that will fluctuate with supply and demand.

It’s going to be a big change for the economy of World of Warcraft, and one that will likely make a lot of elite players very happy.

World of Warcraft’s WoW Token will release soon, prices will flux depending on market forces

Blizzard recently announced the WoW Token; a tradable in-game item that can be redeemed for 30 days worth of game time. It essentially allows players to pay for their WoW subscription using gold made in-game, much like the PLEX system in EVE Online.

WoW Tokens are due to make their way into the game very soon, and Blizzard have started to detail how they will work.

Blizzard introduce "WoW Token", which is like EVE's PLEX for World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft players will soon be able to spend real money on an in-game item, the “WoW Token", that can be redeemed for thirty days of game time or sold to another player for in-game gold. It’s highly reminiscent of EVE’s PLEX, which effectively allows the game’s most proficient and wealthy players to use their gold to pay for their subscriptions.

Join World of Warcraft player "Doubleagent" as he dings level 100 as a neutral Pandaren

Somewhere, in the lands of Azeroth, a neutral Pandaren is on the cusp of hitting a world first milestone. World of Warcraft player, Doubleagent, is a mere couple days away from hitting level 100 on his factionless Pandaren character; achieved entirely through the picking of herbs.

For this achievement, he’s invited everyone and anyone to come and join him via an “Open Raid", on Tuesday, March 3rd. “The plan is to have a little tour of the isle before turning 100 next to one of the nodes, just to be a little reminiscent of the Level 90 event." said Doubleagent.

World of Warcraft will provide colour blind options in next update

As anyone with colour blindness will tell you, trying to read a game’s HUD and interface can be an absolute nightmare. Developers frequently forget that for many people certain colours are impossible to distinguish, which is problematic when colour is used to show information like friendly or enemy players, or how rare and item is.

World of Warcraft relies quite heavily on colour to inform, so it’s about time that it had options for people with colour vision issues. Thankfully they’re coming in the next patch.

World of Warcraft graphics update coming in 6.1 patch

Blizzard’s been working on making the positively ancient World of Warcraft look better for its next patch, 6.1. The update will bring back anti-aliasing of the MSAA and SSAA variety and textures will all look considerably more detailed thanks to Nvidia’s HBAO+.

If none of that made sense then, suffice to say, a wizard did it.

World of Warcraft now does selfies (with black-and-white filters if you want them)

Our fantasy worlds are filled with not-so-subtle allusions to technical equipment beyond the limits of their fiction. Blood Bowl has the CAMRA - a bound spirit in a box whose mental image is transmitted by a team of magicians using the spell Cabalvision. And now World of Warcraft is getting S.E.L.F.I.E.s in Warlords of Draenor patch 6.1.

If an Honorbuddy bot dies in a battleground, and no-one's around to hear it...

When you turn up at a PvP Battleground in World of Warcraft, the last thing you expect to see is an army of players coldly and efficiently marching between capture points in haunting synchronicity. But that’s exactly what YouTuber Zybak found whilst he attempted to dig into some Battlegrounds matches for a stream.

Almost every player for both Alliance and Horde were robots. Avatars puppeteered not by real players behind keyboards, but lines of code; their presence in the arena simply to farm Honor currency. The bot’s known as Honorbuddy, and it’s destroying the fun in WoW’s Battlegrounds.

World of Warcraft's Veteran Edition is just a Starter Edition trial for lapsed players

Speculation about World of Warcraft going free-to-play never seems to cease, and more fuel was added to the fire recently when, last week, MMO-Champion uncovered details of a new account type coming in the 6.1 patch: Veteran Edition.

This account type has caps on gold and experience and other limitations that make it seem a lot like the trial account otherwise known as the Starter Edition. And that’s exactly what it is, Blizzard has confirmed today. It’s a trial account for lapsed players.

Blizzard to scrap World of Warcraft's Death Knight level requirement

Blizzard to scrap World of Warcraft's Death Knight level requirement

Many moons ago, Blizzard released the Wrath of the Lich King expansion to World of Warcraft, and along with it a new class: Death Knights. They were a special sort, being dubbed as a “Hero Class" due to their unique ability to start the game at level 55, which back then was a big thing. The only hitch was that you needed to already own a character that was over that level, before you could even think about creating one.

Now though, as time has passed, Blizzard have seen it fit to remove that arbitrary requirement.
