Battlefield 4 Spring Update adds Gun Master game mode and a new weapons crate

If you thought Battlefield: Hardline would put a stop to DICE updating Battlefield 4, you’d be very wrong. The games first Spring Update brings with it an old favourite game mode from Battlefield 3: Gun Master - players cycle through pre-determined guns through scoring kills, until a player finishes the challenge. Also in is a new weapons crate, which will contain five new weapons; one of which is a “classic lever-action rifle", while another is a “fan-favourite Russian assault rifle".

Battlefield 4 Winter Update brings about "more exact" man-shooting via netcode upgrade

Accuracy is as important to DICE as it is to the snipers holed up in the skyscrapers of Battlefield 4 and the lady counting your change at the takeaway. The Swedish studio are determined to match up the experience you’re having with the one h3isenb0rg is having at the other end of the internet, and finally put to rest the frownsome business of being killed when behind cover.

To that end, DICE have made “major improvements" to Battlefield 4’s network layer in their Winter Update - and say better netcode will clear the way for “more exact" multiplayer on all sides.

Make a map with DICE in Battlefield 4

Despite its name, last year’s Final Stand is not the end point in the development of the once wonky, now apparently improved shooter. DICE plans to continue throwing new content at the game, from game updates to big content packs.

One of those updates will be a map, designed by DICE in collaboration with the community. It’s an extension of the Community Test Environment, with players being promised a chance to shape the map through testing and feedback.

The Battlefield 4 kraken is dead, Paracel Storm easter egg is no more

The hunt for the mythological, subaquatical beast that's been hiding somewhere in Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm map has come to a disappointingly kraken-free conclusion. Not because it's been found, captured and shipped in chains to New York to be displayed on stage, but because DICE have simply up and erased it from existence.

All clues pointing towards the existence of the kraken have been rubbed out, and all means of triggering the secret levolution event have been unceremoniously deleted. Paracel Storm is now officially krakenless. Boo.

Battlefield 4's Final Stand now being stood by premium players, trailered for the rest of us

This is how Battlefield 4’s post-release schedule ends: not with a bang, but - okay, there are a couple of bangs in the trailer.

DICE’s Final Stand DLC arrives today for Premium players, and takes us to the really cold bits of Eastern Europe. Gruff Americans have declared a not-so-covert war on Russia, who are arming for the next levolution - sorry, evolution - in warfare. But really, the snowy setting is an excuse to recreate the vibe of Battlefield 2142 in Battlefield 4.

Final Stand DLC will bring bows to Battlefield 4 with explosive and sniper bolts, say dataminers

With another Hunger Games on the horizon and no new Crysis sequel in sight, it’s up to DICE to cater to our primeval bow-and-arrow needs. A recent Battlelog update suggests they’ve obliged with a brand new compound bow for Battlefield 4. Named in the code as the ‘Spyder’, the weapon comes with a range of colourful ammunition for exploding, illuminating or making small holes in your prey.

Judge dismisses securities fraud suit against EA; executives were just being optimistic

Remember the lawsuits against EA and its executives over Battlefield 4? The securities fraud suit that appeared last year has been dismissed by a Federal judge. The suit claimed that EA’s top brass knew about all the problems with Battlefield 4 and then lied to investors by making public statements espousing the quality of the game. The judge disagreed.

DICE: "we lost player trust" because of Battlefield 4 launch

It is a matter of public record that Battlefield 4 had a shonky launch, with players, developers and publishers now all in agreement that the DICE shooter touched down with all the grace and elegance of a swan landing on a motorway because it's stupid swan-brain thinks roads look like rivers. Get it together, swans.

But while swans refuse to change their ways or admit to their mistakes, an introspective DICE are admitting that the woeful launch and subsequent issues that have plagued Battlefield 4 have harmed player trust in the series.

Before the Fall Patch: long-awaited Battlefield 4 fixes due today on Origin

DICE will implement a “fairly massive" list of Battlefield 4 fixes today. You can tell the 1.16GB update’s a biggie because it has a name rather than a number: the Fall Patch will address many of the issues that’ve most irked players in recent months, including problems with the HUD, ‘netcode’, player movement and peering through reticules.

Battlefield 4 "Autumn Patch" sheds all the bugs; further improves netcode

It’s time for some spring autumn cleaning in Battlefield 4, and there’s hefty long patch notes to go with it. Most notable is the further improvement to the infamous netcode, which is now set automatically to high as default to all users. A slew of game modes are also being added to Obliteration Competitive sub-game mode. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper patch without weapon changes too.

Battlefield 4: Final Stand evokes memories of Battlefield 2142

With Final Stand, Battlefield 4’s upcoming piece of DLC, DICE is presenting their vision of the wars of tomorrow while also looking back to Battlefield 2142.

“With Final Stand, we knew from the start that we wanted to evolve the Battlefield experience and offer weapons and vehicles that behave differently than anything else on the battlefield," write DICE’s Kristoffer Bergqvist and David Sirland. “Taking place on the arctic landscape of Russia, where the scientists of today are experimenting with technology that will define the battlefields of tomorrow."

EA hire eBay exec as their new CTO to help improve their games "as live services"

EA have made a Chief Technology Officer of an eBay veteran, the company revealed last night. Ken Moss comes from eBay’s Seattle office, where he headed up their Marketplace Technology, Science and Data organisation.

Moss will be responsible for overseeing the digital platform that has fuelled EA’s shift to “games as live services" - a move they’ve visibly struggled with over the past year.

“My goal is simple," writes Moss on his LinkedIn page. “to create services that make people’s lives better."
